Staying safe while working an oil rig during wintertime

The oil industry in North Dakota is booming right now, and many families are benefiting economically as a result. The pay is generous along with the benefits. Many hard-working North Dakota residents are eager to earn a good income to provide for their families. However, one unfortunate event at work may cause severe injury, both physically and financially.

Oil rig workers are already subject to long work hours for weeks on end during daytime and nighttime hours. It is especially dangerous during the winter months on an oil rig since new hazards come with the changing weather. Here are some of the many dangers oil rig workers face during extreme cold:

  • Hypothermia
  • Frostbite
  • Slip & fall injuries
  • Prone to sickness/flu
  • Insomnia
  • Loss of focus/concentration
  • Additional stress

The cold weather can make the job site a much different place to work than any other type of season. Always be over prepared when it comes to your personal safety and ensuring work practices are safe for everyone else as well. Many workers have migrated to North Dakota from other parts of the country for the financial benefits. However, not knowing how to successfully survive the winter months may cause serious problems for out-of-state employees.

Injured workers are not only likely to incur medical debt, but also have dependents who suffer because of the loss of income. Many lives are impacted after an accident on an oil rig, and it is not always easy to recover afterwards. Legal help is available to families and individuals who have been subject to injustice and injury.
