David SCHWEIGERT

Dave joined Schweigert, Klemin & McBride, P.C. in 1993 and has been president of the firm since 2005. He heads the firm litigation department and focuses his practice primarily in the areas of personal injury, product liability, insurance defense and business disputes litigation.

Education

He attended Jamestown College (college fellow in business, history and political science; All Conference tight end) and the University of North Dakota School of Law (law review, moot court and graduated with distinction).

Personal

He grew up on a family ranch in eastern Montana and is no stranger to the work ethic common in the Midwest. Dave is married to Suzanne and they have three active sons. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching youth sports, hunting, golfing and spending time with family and friends.

Dave is licensed in North Dakota, Montana and South Dakota.

Karen McBRIDE

Karen McBride is the Secretary and Treasurer of Schweigert, Klemin & McBride, P.C. She has been with the law firm since 1990. Karen's primary legal expertise lies in the areas of Domestic Relations; Estate Planning; Probate; Real Estate; and Corporate Law.

Education

Karen received her B.S. from Minot State University, and her J.D. from the University of North Dakota.

Memberships

Karen is a member of the Burleigh County Bar Association; and the North Dakota and Minnesota State Bar Associations.

Personal

Karen was born in Minot, North Dakota. Outside of the office Karen is active amateur musician, and as such, is a long time member of the Bismarck Mandan Civic Chorus and Dakota Chamber Chorale. Since 1990 she has also been an Ambassador with the Bismarck Mandan Chamber of Commerce.

Lawrence KLEMIN

Lawrence R. Klemin has been with the law firm since 1978. Lawrence has extensive litigation and administrative agency experience and practices primarily in the areas of business, commercial, real estate, insurance, and products liability law and litigation.

Education

Lawrence attended the University of North Dakota, where he received a B.A. in English and Russian, and a J.D. with distinction. He served on the editorial board for the North Dakota Law Review.

Legislative

Lawrence has been a State Representative in the North Dakota Legislative Assembly since 1998, representing District 47 in Bismarck. He has served with the House Judiciary, Political Subdivisions, Government Affairs, and Constitutional Revision Committees. In his capacity as a State Representative, he has been appointed to serve on the National Uniform Law Commission, the Criminal Justice Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures, the North Dakota Commission on Alternatives to Incarceration, and the North Dakota State Employees Compensation Commission.

Personal

Lawrence has been extensively involved with numerous other boards, commissions, and organizations, including the State Advisory Council for the North Dakota Office of Administrative Hearings, Chair of the Administrative Law Committee of the State Bar Association of North Dakota, Board of Directors for the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce, Chair of Chamber's Government Affairs Committee, Chair of the Board of Directors of the West Dakota Chapter of the American Red Cross, Board of Directors of the North Dakota Chapter of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, Advisory Council for RSVP Central North Dakota, and Chair of the Parish Council of the Church of Corpus Christi. Lawrence is also the author and editor of Civil Practice of North Dakota, 2nd Edition, Forms and Trial Notebook (Litigation Services, Inc.) and the author of Small-Case Litigation Forms (James Publishing, Inc.). Lawrence is a Vietnam Veteran, having served with the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army where he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal and Air Medal.

Lawrence is licensed to practice law in North Dakota and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, United States District Court for the District of North Dakota, and the North Dakota Supreme Court and District Courts. Lawrence is also listed as a Mediator on the North Dakota Statewide ADR Civil Neutral Roster, and is an Arbitrator for the National Arbitration Forum and the Better Business Bureau.

Tyler SIEWERT

Tyler is an Associate Attorney with Schweigert, Klemin & McBride, P.C. From commercial disputes to personal injury matters, Tyler’s primary practice is devoted to a wide range of civil litigation claims.

Education

Tyler received his undergraduate education from the University of North Dakota, earning his B.A. in Political Science. Tyler further went on to receive his J.D. from the University of Minnesota where he served as a member of the Minnesota Law Review and as the Research Director for the school’s moot court program.

Tyler is a member of the State Bar Association of North Dakota and the Minnesota State Bar Association.

Personal

Originally from Grand Forks, North Dakota, Tyler enjoys spending his spare time playing guitar, being at the lake, and following all of his favorite sports teams.

Education

William received his undergraduate education from Concordia College (B.A. Business Management 2008 Cum Laude) and his legal education at the University of North Dakota School of Law (J.D. 2011 with Distinction).

While in law school William was active in Moot Court and Mock Trial and served on the board of the Student Bar Association and Criminal Law Association. During law school William also externed at the Grand Forks County District Court for the Honorable Judge Medd and at the Grand Forks County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Jim is a Certified Legal Assistant with Schweigert, Klemin & McBride, P.C. Jim's concentration is in litigation support in the areas of personal injury, products liability and insurance defense. His past experience in the contruction and printing industries give him valuable and practical knowledge and understanding in many areas applicable to the firm's practice.

Education

Jim received his paralegal education at Inver Hill Community College, Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota (A.A.S., Legal Assistant Program, 1990). He earned the Certified Legal Assistant designation through NALA (National Association of Legal Assistants) in January, 1994.

Memberships

Jim is a member of the Western Dakota Association of Legal Assistants, a NALA affiliated assocation.

Personal

Jim was born in Bismarck, North Dakota, and grew up on his family's farm near Wilton, North Dakota. Outside of the office, Jim enjoys bicycling, listening to music no one else likes, spending way too much time watching television, woodworking and painting.

Leigh graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead where she received a Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies.

Personal

Leigh was raised on her family's ranch in Reeder, North Dakota and attended high school in Hettinger, ND.  Leigh enjoys photography, traveling, cross-country skiing, and sailing.
